GREG NOBILE ON PRODUCING ‘SLAVE PLAY’ (VIDEO)

September 5, 2019 by Philip Boroff

After an acclaimed run at New York Theatre Workshop, Jeremy O. Harris’ Slave Play  begins previews on Tuesday at the John Golden Theatre. I spoke to lead producer Greg Nobile of Seaview Productions about the decision to transfer the drama and not cast stars and how it’s being marketed.

Vulture‘s Sara Holdren called the play “supercharged, fearsome, and often terribly funny,” while Jesse Green described it as “willfully provocative, gaudily transgressive and altogether staggering” in the New York Times.

Harris, 30, wrote Slave Play  at Yale School of Drama, from which he recently graduated. It’s directed by Robert O’Hara, a professor of Harris’, and capitalized at $3.5 million.
